About Me

Me Visiting Hobbiton
Adventure is Out There!
Perhaps you recognize this iconic line from Disney's "Up!". This is one of my favourite films as it really resonated with me and how I choose to live my life.
Who am I?
Catching Some Waves with My Hubby
I grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada as the only child of two amazing parents who also had a bit of a menagerie: two dogs, a cat, a handful of hamsters, a bird, a couple of rabbits...you get the picture! I've always loved the idea of travel and wanted to be an astronaut when I was growing up. I always begged my parents for the map when we were doing our summer road trip to the lake because I wanted to know exactly where we were and where we were going. I did my first solo international travel at 14, flying down to Houston by myself to attend an international space school. This was not only my first travel experience, but I spent two amazing weeks with people from 17 different countries and learned about their different cultures. Thus, the travel bug was planted.

Getting to know me

I love living life to the fullest, taking every day as it comes. Everyone always told me growing up to be myself, yet society said to grow up, go to university, get a job, get married, and have kids. Well, nobody said you had to do all those things in one place! I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary and then wondered what to do next. I found a job that allowed me to travel across Canada.
I have thankfully found a husband who also enjoys travel and is willing to go along with my occasional hair-brained ideas, even if the most recent one has seen us moving halfway around the world. I love all things adventure: rollercoasters, skydiving, scuba diving, and tramping. I am afraid of spiders, which makes me more than a bit apprehensive to visit Australia.
I believe that Earth is the home of every human and that we are all neighbours in this wonderful world. I'm willing to try anything once, which has led me to some amazing experiences, even if people sometimes call me crazy. I believe that we all have a choice in our lives to create the life that we want to live instead of settling for what others tell us we should be doing.
Why a blog?
I love writing and sharing what I've learned with friends new and old. I have always loved writing; when my primary school teacher assigned the task of a short story, the other kids would write 5 pages...I would write 20! Thankfully I have learned to be more concise (usually) but the love of writing hasn't changed.
Just for you!
Over the course of travelling I have learned many things - some of them the hard way! While first-hand experience is a useful thing, I like to share my mistakes and help others learn from them as well.
I also want to inspire others to just book a ticket and go somewhere. I have heard from so many people how 'lucky' I am to have the chance to do what I'm doing and that they would "love to travel if only...". You don't need a huge budget to travel, you just have to make it a priority. You don't need to be lucky to travel either! You just need to pick the place, get on the plane, and start exploring!
I want to share all the best tips I've learned from my years of travel to help you make your dreams come true.
