Being Handy; Fixing the Campervan

Andrew and I are definitely both getting much more skilled at general repairs since we moved to New Zealand. It's somewhat funny; the other two pairs that we are staying with are a fair bit younger than we are and they told us "I'm not ready to be an adult, I don't know how to do stuff like fix a car and such.". I am slowly realizing that being an adult involves asking your parent's advice, winging it, and using Google/youtube to learn what you don't know!

I guess it comes from buying a vehicle almost as old as we are, but there have been small things going wrong or needing repair since we got it. I will be glad if there comes a day where I can drive into a town and not have to ask where the Mitre 10 (local home hardware store) is so that we can pick up pieces.

This week's improvements included:

  • Replacing the driver's side mirror (don't ask, the campervan didn't come with one)
  • Replacing the visor on the driver's side
  • Repairing our refrigerator (turning it upside down for a night apparently did it!)
  • Replacing the back door hinge, which snapped while we were closing the door after repairing the refrigerator
  • Gluing the bed back together
  • Putting up our Christmas decorations!!
  • Trying to fix the lock on the passenger door. Still working on this one. It unlocks from the inside, but not with the key. A little inconvenient, but not too bad.
