Bodyboarding at 90 mile Beach

Andrew ready for bodyboarding
Today Andrew and I went down to 90 mile beach with our new body boards and two of the Germans that are also WWOOFing here. What a blast!!

At first we tried skimming, which is basically skateboarding on water. Very shallow water and basically skimming right along the surface on the board. We weren't very successful at it though since our boards kept catching in the sand and catapulting us into the water. There was much splashing and landing on our butts.

How does this go?
Catching a wave
We all decided to try bodyboarding with our boards then instead, which is similar to surfing, but much less technical since it doesn't involve standing. We couldn't go too far out since the currents at this beach can be quite strong, but we found some awesome waves nonetheless!
Sunset in the surf
It took a bit of practice, but we all started feeling at what point to run and jump on the wave to be able to catch it and ride it, instead of simply flopping onto the water too soon or too late. I think this will be really helpful for when we do surfing lessons in January!

As we were finishing the day, the sun was setting over the ocean with beautiful clouds, making a perfect finish to an evening of boarding. We are so glad to have these opportunities!
